Blackberry Jam

2 pounds blackberries
4 cups sugar

Allow 2 cups of sugar for each pound of washed blackberries. Mix the blackberries and sugar well and let stand for 30 mins.

Mix again and set on the stove in a heavy cast-iron or stainless-steel pot. Cook, stirring constantly, over moderate heat until the jam is thick. Pour immediately into hot, sterilized mason jars and secure the sterilized jar tops.
