About

by Joi on November 7, 2005

I can give the basics and even a few little extras, but the best way to get to know about me is to get to know me. So e-mail me (joisigers @ aim.com) or connect with me on Twitter (http://twitter.com/JoiTaniaSigers) or Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/joisigers).  That way, I get to know you too!

My name is Joi (pronounced Joy). People see my name and wonder if I’m from “an exotic race” – the answer’s no, unless being a Kentuckian counts!  Born in Kentucky, raised in Kentucky, live in Kentucky – as the Montgomery Gentry song says, here is “where I keep all my yesterdays.” My todays are also here, and my tomorrows see no reason to go anywhere else.

The spelling is simply a result of a great grandmother being ahead of her time.  She told my mom she thought it’d be a fun idea to spell it with an i, and my mom always liked the word fun, so there you have it.

I came up with the idea for Buttermilk Press.com and its blog, Get Cooking as a way to preserve my favorite recipes and cooking tips for my three beautiful daughters (Emily, Brittany, and Stephany).  Over the years I’ve met so many wonderful and colorful people through Get Cooking that I know this food blog was one of my best ideas ever.

Because I’ve always thought of this site/blog as a dedication to my daughters, who I love more than my next breath, I always strive to make this the best food and recipe blog/site that it possibly can be.  I work hard to provide recipes, cooking tips, product reviews, and food news and do all that I can to stay on my toes!

The Small Print (Well, it’s not really small at all, is it?)

I work entirely from home.   What I make with my websites/blogs is the only income I have.  So, you will see that when I recommend a book, I use an Amazon affiliate link.  This means I get paid (a small amount) for each book or product bought on Amazon when that link is used.  Also, the products I recommend have either been sent to me to review for my readers or I am recommending them to you, using an affiliate link – again, meaning that I make a small amount of the money that is spent on the product.

It’s all very common online – heck, it’s the way we all are able to keep doing what we’re doing and able to provide free recipes, articles, information, and so on to our readers.

I have a pact with myself – if I wouldn’t recommend something to my own daughters, I won’t recommend it to my online friends (readers).

This is the way my recommendations generally go…

  1. I’ll come across a kitchen gadget, food, cookbook, or product that I love.
  2. I’ll come to Get Cooking to recommend it to my readers.
  3. I’ll look to see if there is an affiliate program – so that I can, at least, get paid for my recommendation.

I promise you this:  I never have and never will recommend something for personal reasons.  That’s just not me and that’s just not the reputation I want for myself or my sites.  Especially one that is a leaving, breathing dedication to my girls!
