Amish Sweet and Sour Steamed Cabbage

by Joi on December 14, 2005

1 medium-sized head of cabbage
1 tsp salt
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
3 Tbsp. Sugar
3 Tbsp. vinegar

Cut cabbage in narrow wedges and steam in small amount of water until tender. Stir in margarine or butter.

Combine sugar and vinegar. Pour over cabbage and heat thoroughly.

Makes 6 – 8 servings.

In all honesty, I haven’t tried this one yet. I just came across the old recipe and was fascinated by it! I was going to try it out first, but my meals lately have been either Italian or Mexican and this particular dish doesn’t really fit in with the dinner theme of either!

So, it’ll be a day or two before I can give any first-hand review of this one – you’re on your own! Let me know how it is…
