Aromatherapy

by Joi on June 22, 2005

Something that fascinates me almost as much as cooking is aromatherapy. I’ve spent a lot of time trying out different scents under different situations - to see their effects, and have found that they most definitely DO have an impact.

Below are some common scents listed below areas where they help and aid the most.

Remember, however, that not all scents have the same effects on all people. Memories can play a very big role in aromatherapy. Ever smelled a certain scent that “takes you back” to a certain time, for good or bad? That memory is exclusively yours, so the effect will not be the same for the next person as it would be for you. For example, when I was pregnant with my first daughter, I had the world’s worst morning sickness - except it was ALL DAY sickness. So, I ate tons of cherry jell-o, crackers and Sprite. To this day, when I smell cherry jell-o, or practically anything cherry-scented, I think of being pregnant during hot summer months in Wichita Kansas…not the same effect cherry would have on most!

*My favorite aromatherapy technique is simply to use candles. Lavender candles in the bedroom and bathroom help with relaxing after a busy day. I like fruit-based scents near when I’m working at the computer. I even like to match my cleaners with the particular “scent theme” of the particular part of the house. Lavender-scented Fabuloso is not only one of the best cleaners on the market, it smells AWESOME!

While were on the subject of cleaners - the METHOD line of cleaners, which are exclusive to Target stores are fantastic. I have to say that the Fabuloso brand smells EVEN better that Method’s Lavender, and lasts longer as well. BUT, the method cleaners are outstanding. They leave everything shiny and delicious smelling.
