Great Day on the Food Network

by Joi on August 15, 2006

Food Network

I’ll be recording so many shows on the Food Network today that I’ll be up all night watching them! Below are the ones that struck my fancy…….don’t know that I’ve ever typed those words…….check the scroller on Buttermilk Press to see if there are others that’ll strike yours.

(Times given are eastern, so be sure to check your own listings, or you’ll be left with something you didn’t order!)

On Boy Meets Grill at 11:30 am, Bobby Flay will make something called Pomegranate-Cinnamon Grilled Quail. It sounds pretty amazing, doesn’t it? It’d be a perfect Christmas Eve dish - If I’m able to wait that long.

At 2:00, on the Essence of Emeril, the episode’s devoted to Cheese. I’m good with that!! He’ll make one of my favorite soups, Cheddar Cheese Soup. Later, at 4:00 on Paula’s Home Cooking, Paula Deen makes a French Onion Soup - another favorite. On the same episode, she’ll be making Chocolate-Banana Filled Crepes.

Rachael Ray’s “Box Office Dinner” episode at 2:30 is also a winner. She’s making Mega Meatball Pizza and Coffee Floats - both of which I can’t wait to see. And make. And taste. Especially taste.

At 4:30, Giada De Laurntiis will be making “sandwiches” on her Everyday Italian show. I’m really anxious to see two in particular, Nutella Sandwiches and Italian Egg Sandwiches.

The best show of the day may just be later tonight, though. On $40 a Day, Rachael Ray will be in one of my favorite places in the world - Chattanooga, Tennessee, and she’ll be spending time with some of my favorite foods ever. Check out the line-up: Waffle of Insane Greatness, Grilled Gulf Shrimp, Fried Green Tomatoes, White Cheddar Cheese Grits, Pecan Crusted Double-Cut Pork Chops, Cappuccino Cups. Pecan Crusted Double-Cut Pork Chops…..I have a feeling a “YUM-O!” will be nearby.

Must Sees on the Food Network Today

by Joi on August 10, 2006

While getting the Food Network ticker loaded up for the day on Buttermilk Press - a few shows and/or recipes stood out in my food-obsessed little mind :

On Paula Deen’s first show (1:00 est), she’ll be making Jalapeno Cracklin’ Corn Bread. That sounds like it’d be amazing with some well-seasoned white beans (or Pinto or Great Northern)….or a pot of chili, for that matter.

Immediately after that episode, Giada De Laurentiis comes on with “Everyday Italian.” One of the foods she’s set to make is Warm Chocolate Cakes with Berries. Like the Jalapeno Cracklin’ Corn Bread, it made an appointment with my kitchen.

See the scroller on Buttermilk Press for the specifics, but both of Emeril’s shows (Essense and Live) will be big winners today, as will Semi-Homemade, and tonight’s Good Eats (Tortillas).

The ones I”m most looking forward to are Paula’s second show of the day and Rachael Ray’s 6:30 pm est. 30 Minute Meals. Paula’s episode is titled “Paula Goes International” and will feature Cuban Sandwiches, Homemade Potato Chips, Alice Jo’s Spaghetti Sauce, Taco Salad, and Mexican Wedding Cookies. The Cuban sandwiches should be the ones featured in her most recent cookbook.

Rachael’s show is titled “Rustlin’ Up Vittles” and it has me camped out by my tv set. She’ll make Cowboy Hash and Eggs, Texas Toast and Salsa. The salsa is a Yellow Tomato Salsa and sounds pretty amazing. Can’t wait for that one.

If you’re like my husband and like Bobby Flay, you’ll want to see his “Throwdown” show tonight - featuring Jerk Chicken. They’ll also be cooking up Jamaican Jerk Chicken
Caribbean Stuffed Red Snapper, Spicy West Indies Fish, Honey-Grilled Vegetables, Calypso Corn, Rice Salad
Grilled Garlic Bread, Tanzanian Baked Bananas, Strawberry-Lemonade Punch, Grilled Jerk Chicken with Mango Cilantro Salsa, and Grilled Jerk Rubbed Chicken with Habanero-Mint Glaze.

Habanero-Mint Glaze. Does that sound dangerous, or what?!?!

It’s a good day. I have the Food Network on in our home office - since I work at home, no one can tell me it’s a “no no,” well they could - it just flat wouldn’t do them any good. Get between me and Rachael, Paula, Giada, Emeril and Alton? They’d be a fool. That’s right up there with jerking on Superman’s cape and spitting into the wind…

Have an amazingly delicious day,
Joi

Today would be a good day to record your favorite Food Network shows - or to do what I do - and just let them play as you go about your work.

On one episode of Everyday Italian, Giada De Laurentiis will be making Pumpkin Ravioli with Sage and Toasted Hazelnuts, Pizza Di Spaghetti, and Spaghetti with Olives and Tomato Sauce. On her other episode she’ll be making salads - one in particular sounds really good, Spinach Salad with Orange Vinaigrette.

Rachael Ray’s 30 Minute Meals will be on several times today as well, but only one of them sounds like a can’t miss deal. It’s the one titled “Summer Cooldown.” It features Chocolate Shakes and Strawberries and Sliced Grilled Portobello Mushroom Sorta-Ceasar Salads! I see both of those in my near and dear future.

Two episodes that I’m really excited about are Food 911 and Emeril - because they’re both focusing on Asian food. A total and complete weakness for me - I could eat Asian for a week straight and never look up from the table. On Food 911, Tyler’s making Hot Pot with Crab Wontons (!!!) and Stir-Fried Dungeness Crab with Sweet Chili Sauce and Bok Choy. Emeril has a huge line-up of Asian dishes to strut out as well, and I’m ready to take notes!

Food Network Daily Updates

by Joi on June 23, 2006

I’ve been slowly but surely redoing my main cooking site, Buttermilk Press.com. It’s almost all the way finished - I should be able to finish up this weekend.

If you go by you’ll notice a scrolling feature that I’ve added for those of you who are as addicted to the Food Network as I am. You won’t be able to miss it - it’s in the top right hand corner. I’ll keep up with what’s coming up on our favorite channel that night. Admitedly I only keep up with what’s coming up on my favorites, but my faves happen to be the best anyway!

Anyway, tonight’s episodes sound especially good - Rachael Ray and Alton Brown each have two on tonight and all four feature dishes I’d be interested in. Giada DeLaurntiis will be making some interesting Iced Tea - and since that’s pretty much the elixer of the gods, I gotta check in on that.

Did you catch Emeril last night? He used a great Southern technique that I swear by as well - marinating chicken in buttermilk. He actually soaked his wings in a buttermilk and lime juice mixture. Yep, gotta try that out.

Have a weekend worth writing about!

Cooking: Giada Style!

by Joi on May 9, 2006

Giada de Laurentiis pretty much rules. Said another way, she is the Italian bomb! I love her show on the Food Network - she makes cooking seem like such an art, and there’s something unbelievably calming and relaxing about listening to her. I’ve noticed, too, that she has one of those smiles that, upon seeing it unleashed, you have to smile back. Of course, the main thing is her cooking skills, which are amazing. I always come away with something I can use.

I found a recipe online for homemade pizza by Giada, and I can’t wait to round up all the ingredients and give it a test drive. Click right about HERE to check it out for yourself.

To check out Giada’s cookbooks (or Paula’s or Rachel’s) - cool your heels in the The store at Food Network.
