Eating Healthy in the New Year

by Joi on December 31, 2007

My husband made an observation last week and I have to absolutely agree. When you eat healthier, you feel A LOT better. I guess that makes perfect sense, right? You just really never notice it until you start eating more healthy foods and meals, then sort of backslide for a day. THEN you feel it!

I’ve linked (to the left) to some amazing “Healthy Recipes” - and by amazing, I mean they’re so good you won’t think of them as healthy….you’ll think of them as delicious. I’ve also linked to a few very informative, potentially life-changing and (even saving!) articles and web sites below.

Take the healthy eating challenge - for a week, eat only foods you KNOW are good for you. Skip the sweets, fried foods, and limit red meat to, maybe, one meal in the entire week. Fill up on vegetables and fruits, drink tea, water and juice instead of soda. Eat at Subway instead of your favorite Burger restaurant - or, if you go, at least order a salad with a grilled chicken sandwich.

Eat less than you normally do. When the week’s up, you’ll probably feel a lot better - you may even have more wiggle room in your clothes!

Give it a try - what do you have to lose? Besides weight, cholesterol woes, health risks, lethargy, threat of diabetes….

HEALTHY LINKS!

Vegetarian Diets: I’m not suggesting you “Go Veggie” all the way. But, if you add a lot more vegetable dishes to your diet, your body will reward you. Having a completely vegetarian meal twice a week is something I’ve done for a while. My family really doesn’t even miss the meat. As I’ve posted before, Boca Burgers can be dressed up any way you like - and they’re delicious. Also, crumbled Boca burgers make perfectly amazing tacos. Add a little cilantro and you’d swear you were in an authentic Mexican restaurant.

Ellen Krieger’s Healthy Recipes: Ellen Krieger is to vegetables what Paula Deen is to butter. Her recipes are flawless - you forget that they’re “healthy” and simply enjoy the taste.

The photo at the top of the post is a picture of her “Devilish Eggs” - they’re made with silken tofu and horseradish! I’ve linked to the recipe (on the left).
