Herb Garden in a Pail

I love this. I totally love this! Two of my greatest passions are cooking and gardening - so this is one of those things with my name all over it. The Herb Garden in a Pail from the Discover Channel Store is a cook’s dream come true. You can grow some of the wonderful herbs that great cooking demands in a convenient, never-needs-weeding container. The pail can be kept inside OR on a patio or deck. Wherever it calls home will quickly become the most aromatic spot on your property!

This is a complete kit, as in everything you need except water, to grow a container garden filled with the following culinary herbs – basil, parsley and garlic chives. The herbs grow right in the galvanized pail.

It even comes with top quality, nitrile-coated, machine-washable gardening gloves. How cute is that?

It seems like I use garlic chives in just about everything. One of the places they shine the most, though, is simply snipped over a great big, buttery baked potato. Parsley’s also very versatile and can make any dish look better. As for basil, it’s an herb that’s fast becomming another of my favorites. I guess it’s because I use tomatoes alot in my cooking and basil and tomatoes go together as beautifully as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

In fact, a very simple, elegant, and delicious summer side dish is to simply slice a couple of fresh tomatoes and arrange them on a serving platter. Cut up string mozzarella cheese into attractive little chunks and scatter them amongst the tomato slices. Drizzle a little olive oil over the top (or, better yet, spray if you have access to a spray bottle), then cut some fresh basil on top of everything.

Served alongside your favorite pasta dish, this is a delicious change-of-pace from the traditional tossed salad.
