I Love My Chef’s Pro Gel Mat!

I hate to brag, but I’m the most accident prone person in the world. Some may think they have the title, but it’s mine - make no mistake about it. Things happen to and around me that just don’t happen outside of sitcoms or horror movies. The repercussions, I learn to live with, and thank my guardian angels (I require a team) that said repercussions aren’t worse.
Is that doubt I detect on your face?
I was in a car wreck about 10 years ago - hit from behind by a sneezing, speeding man. A man who’d hit so many people that he told my husband, “The last car I hit was a Mercury…” Well, he totaled my Mercury as well as my back. Little bones were broken up and down my spine and, while it never affected the way I walked or looked - pain moved in that would come and go forever. If I’m on my feet for long periods at a time….well, it’s not a good thing.
Last fall, I was stepping up on a chair to change a light bulb - my foot slid and came through the opening in the back. I’m pretty sure something was broken that shouldn’t have been, and the foot’s never forgiven me. A few weeks after that incident….. while still limping…. I had to chase and wrestle a pit bull that was after two of my cats. The dog thought it was a game, but the amusement was lost on me and the cats. Needless to say, the foot just got worse. I still have no idea how I managed to catch up to the dog (twice) on a bum foot - love of my cats carried me, but dropped me at the end!
So, as you can imagine, standing on my feet for any length of time is doubly hard for me. I still do it, of course - my Tylenol bottle and I just suffer through. The times I notice it the worst are when I’m working/cooking in the kitchen or shopping.
With a completely unexpected kitchen mat, I’m excited to say that one of these times has been dealt with! When my 20x 72″ Chef’s Mat by Gel Pro came by UPS, I was shocked to se how heavy it was. After unrolling it, I was even more shocked at how great looking it was. Very, very handsome and as my dad would have said, sssssnazzy.
My daughter Brittany and I took off our houseshoes and pranced around on it - with obligatory oooohs and ahhhhs. So comfortable!
I have to confess, before I slid it into position in my kitchen, I practiced a few yoga poses on it. (The exercise of choice for us who break easily.) I found that it’s a perfect yoga/exercise mat as well, which is ideal for me because I do my yoga in the kitchen floor. Now all I have to do is slide my Gel Pro Chef’s Mat out away from the sink area - into the middle of the room for 30 minutes, then slide it back when I’m through. My feet don’t slide underneath it like they did on the kitchen floor. More bones saved!
The real test came, however, with the kitchen work. As I said, generally when I’m in the kitchen (as most cooking fanatics usually are) for any length of time, I’m diving for the Tylenols. So I was anxious to see if the Gel mat made a difference.
It does. And how!
I noticed right off the bat…or, rather, right off the mat….that standing, itself, was a more comfortable prospect with the gel mat. Whether I was peeling potatoes, kneading bread, washing dishes, or slicing vegetables - I have never ONCE thought about my feet or back since getting the gel mat. I only have to think about what’s, literally, at hand. Frankly, I was skeptical - but now I’m just amazed. It, literally, makes standing feel more like sitting.
I have every intention of using it when I’m ironing, too. I keep thinking of other uses, and the list of possibilities is endless. I’d love a few of the smaller sizes throughout the house. One in front of each bathroom mirror would make the girly routines like applying make-up and doing hair more stand-friendly (the guys would appreciate it while shaving). Another plus is that they wipe clean after spills - and, as you can imagine, I have plenty of those.
I’d like another long one in front of my washer and dryer - the rug I have there now kind of slides with me sometimes and that’s not such a good thing.
Something else I thought of was people who work in kitchens or behind counters all day. One of the longer Gel Mats would make life oh so much easier.
I can’t wait for the holidays to get here. Around Thanksgiving and Christmas, my kitchen time is even more than what it is now - so much so that my Tylenol runs with its tail between its legs after a few doses. But I’ll be ready this year!
Fortunately, the Gel Mat looks gorgeous. It feels so good, that even if it were ugly I’d still use it and love it in spite of its looks. Granted, I’d throw a rug or two over it, but the love would still be there. Luckily, though, I can save on the rugs as well as the Tylenol, because the Gel Mats are beautiful. I ordered the black mat to go with my black appliances, and it looks extremely nice. I have mine, when it isn’t being relocated for other uses, in front of my sink and main counter. A smaller one in front of the refrigerator would look amazing. See, I’m thinking of them as decor as much as functionality.
Click through any of the links (or either picture) to read more about the Gel Mats. They would make a wonderful gift for yourself - just in time for all the holiday baking and cleaning! They’d also make very, very thoughtful and original Christmas gifts. They really are amazing - I’m absolutely blown away by mine.
