Nutty Nurtition in the News

by Joi on February 13, 2007

If you’re as in love with the taste of pecans as I am, you’re going to be pretty excited about this “nutty” news:

Eating a handful of pecans each day can protect you from heart disease. They are especially rich in a certain form of vitamin E known as gamma-tocopherol (a very powerful antioxidant).Research at Loma Linda University in California proved that pecans (like other nuts) can reduce “bad” LDL cholesterol in the body.

Other popular nuts are good for us, as well:

1. Almonds lower blood pressure.

2. Peanuts regulate heart rhythm.

3. Hazlenuts protect against heart failure.

4. Cashews lower heart disease risk.

I’ve always liked keeping nuts on hand for snacks, for the tasty convenience alone - but now when I buy them I know I’m doing something healthy for my family as well. The more you read about foods and their effects on our health, the more you realize that we really are what we eat!

Have a great Tuesday…I hope it’s dry where you are, we’re soaked here in Kentucky!
