Starbucks London Fog Latte and Apple Chai Tea are Darn Good

by Joi on January 2, 2009

Back to back Starbucks posts? A new personal best.

The husband and I went to Owensboro’s main Starbucks tonight to see if they had the new teas yet. They did – they’re just marvelous like that. I tried the London Fog because if they’re clever enough to come up with such a great name, I’m game. The London Fog is a Latte that uses Earl Grey tea as the main ingredient. It’s like a Chai Tea Latte, but at the last minute Earl Grey substitutes for the Chai. I love Earl Grey tea dearly, so I loved the London Fog dearly. It’s really, really good.

My husband got the Apple Chai tea and it was fantastic, too. It tasted like a cross between Starbucks’ Apple Cider (which is Heavenly) and Chai Tea (also Heavenly). Both drinks were as good as I’d hoped they’d be.

FYI Starbucks didn’t come up with the name London Fog! A London Fog has been around for a long long time and when people would try to order it from Starbucks, the company had to call it a Vanilla Earl Grey Tea Misto because of the copyright laws with the name, but apparently now SB has bought the rights to use the name, which is why they are marketing the “new” latte! Even though it’s not new! Glad to hear you enjoyed it though, I love them!

Pretty sure Starbucks didn’t invent the name London Fog. I’ve been enjoying them at an ashram here in the bay area for a few years now.

Oh Geez Louise – I never thought for one minute they came up with the name London Fog. But they DID use it for this particular drink, which is what I meant. That’s all.

Does anyone have a recipe for Berry Chai Tea (infusion) like the one they serve at Starbucks? I have googled this and can’t find a concrete recipe. I know it is pretty much juice and Chai tea but I need more details on what type of juice and how to make it.
Thanks

I’ve been experimenting with blends, too, but so far without much success. I’ve combined a Tazo Chai tea bag with a berry tea bag (Celestial Seasonings) and the result isn’t the same but it is darn good!

I’ve also been creating a similar concoction to their London Fog – using Earl Grey tea and heated, frothed skim milk. Extra delicious!

I love the Berry Chai tea but it has 58 g of sugar. It taste familiar to me so I had my mom try it. If you go to a Mexican market there is dry leaf/fruit called Jamaica (Hi-my-car). It is exactly the same thing. I boiled the dry fruit, with a little sugar when it cooled I added chai tea bags, got it on ice. Delicious….

Ooooooh, that sounds so intriguing. This is completely up my tea-obsessed alley! I will look into this fruit and have a go at it.

Chai tea is a favorite of mine – it always has been. I actually put off trying the Berry Chai because I thought it’d mess up the flavor of the Chai tea. But it still comes through.

Thanks so much for sharing this tip, I can’t wait to try it out!

I know that health food stores often have berry blends that you can try…
My friend once went to a local Starbucks and asked to buy some of their juice – the manager authorized it, so you might get lucky (especially if you frequent a location and the manager recognizes you)

Health food stores is a brilliant idea – I’ll do that.

Managers in the entire tri-state area recognize me as well as their own children! The love is a two way street. Sigh…
