Your orders for the day: Find the Starbucks nearest you and get thyself to it Godspeed. Walk in like you own the place (that’s my M.O. anyway) and order a Salted Caramel Signature Hot Chocolate. Don’t let the word “salted” trip you up. It’s just a little perfectly Heavenly salt ground on top. It compliments the whole shebang in a way that ought to be illegal in 49 states. We’ll let Texas get away with it, they’re bigger than we are.
Starbucks regular Hot Chocolate is completely delicious, itself. In the fall and winter, I go back and forth between Hot Chocolate, Apple Cider (delicious!) and one of my greatest addictions – Chai Tea. But since I tried the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate, I’ve kind of been stuck. Funny, but I seldom actually get coffee at Starbucks. I guess it’s because I always have coffee made at home (and often with Starbucks coffee beans), so getting it out doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Of course, my husband would say I don’t order coffee at Starbucks because it’s cheaper than the other drinks, and that goes against something I stand for.
*Sniff* I love how he knows me so well.
By the way (or “Buy the way”), the link below will take you to a site called Coffee For Less. I’ve used the link that’ll hook you up with one of my favorite coffee beans: Starbucks Caffee Verona. It’s bold, aromatic, and makes you happy to be alive.
Try the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate! – It’ll blow the roof off your mind.

I tried that not too long ago for the first time, and absolutely loved it. Awesome stuff.
Great blog, by the way.
Thanks so much, Raivyn! – Joi
I tried this drink a couple of weeks ago and was hooked– like, really hooked. Hooked as in I went back for another four hours later and now buy it at least twice a week… Damn you Starbucks! I can’t seem to get enough!
Islanesia, I’m averaging about the same number of hot chocolates. I keep them on their toes at my Starbucks, though – half the time I order this DELICIOUS drink, sometimes I get the Apple Cider, sometimes the Chai Tea and sometimes coffee. They’re always so disappointed when I just order “coffee” though! – Joi
These look so delish! However, they don’t make them in soy *boohoo*. I’ll enjoy through you all.

I’d never thought about that, soy would be interesting. Maybe you could tinker with the same effects at home.
I always buy the Starbucks dry hot cocoa powder – for times when I can’t get to them, I bring them to me! I’ve been meaning to get some sea salt and caramel sauce to experiment at home!
I’ve tried making Chai tea at home and, while it’s good, it’s not “as good” as Starbucks’. However, in a pinch – like at 1:00 in the morning, when every Starbucks in town is sleeping – it makes me happy.
Hmmm, I don’t know which I’m dying for more now, the Salted Caramel hot chocolate or Chai tea. I know, I can get one this morning and one tonight to drink during Amazing Race.
Dilemna solved! – Joi
I love the Salted Caramel hot chocolate, however at almost $4/pop, my hubby was getting a little cranky about my drinking/spending habits, so I made my own. I went really on the cheap and used instant hot chocolate and caramel ice cream topping. Before you banish me to hell for being that cheap, I will announce that it is still delish! As far as the salt goes, I believe it is McCormick’s that makes a smoked sea salt in a grinder. Try it, believe me, the smokey/salty/sweet is divine. Reminds me a little of the bacon brownies I wowed everyone at work with…
That actually sounds amazing! And I’d never even think of banishing you to such a hideous place! Don’t tell anyone, but I seldom can be found without a box of instant hot chocolate in my pantry! It’s dang good!
I’ve tried to recreate the magic of the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate, too, and whenever you combine the main flavors – caramel, chocolate, and salt – the result is delicious!
Starbucks has recently discontinued the Signature Hot Chocolate product which has virtually doomed my patronage. My drink is the Espresso Truffle (nearly exclusively), so I am saddened to see this product go. I understand their motivation behind its discontinuance. The Signature Hot Chocolate is delivered to their stores in packets which when mixed with nonfat milk, makes 1 gallon batches. The pre-mix is then stored in the barista refrigerator. This resulted in daily wastage if it wasn’t all used by closing time. What I don’t understand is why doesn’t Starbucks make it in a scoop-able or pump-able medium? This would enable the barista to make single servings and thus reduce the wastage completely. I am currently seeking Starbucks Signature Hot Chocolate on eBay and taste-alike recipes online; hoping that Starbucks does something about this.
That would have been a super idea. When the weather warms up, I’m hoping they offer an iced version of their hot chocolate. I tasted a sample of it at one of my local Starbucks and flipped over it. It tasted just like their remarkable Signature Hot Chocolate – it was just cold rather than hot. It was topped off with a whipped topping and it was nothing short of Heaven.
I really would like to see them bring back the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate next fall/winter. It was such a hit!
