Tis the Season that Bares All!

by Joi on July 22, 2005

Summer, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways! I just about live for this season - as a fanatic of grilling, gardening, tennis and walking….not to mention the Great American pastime: Baseball! - summer energizes me like no other season quite can.

However, it does put everything “out there” for the world to see. All the fudge eaten at Christmas, all the NFL game day snacks, all the calories stored up over the winter show up in ways that could frighten small children.

I’ve accumulated a variety of activities (below) that burn off these calories. I thought I’d share them, just in case I’m not the only one wishing I hadn’t baked and eaten every cookie known to man during the holidays!

Here are some easy ways to burn an extra 150 calories:

Iron clothes for 68 minutes.

Cook for 48 minutes. (But keep your spoon out of the pans!)

Wash, and wax your car for 45 minutes. To hit the time limit, you’d probably need to get your car AND your spouse’s AND maybe even one more!

Wash windows and floors for 45 minutes.

Shop for 36 minutes. (YESSSSSSS!!!)

Mop floors for 36 minutes.

Dust for 34 minutes.

Walk moderately for 35 minutes.

Vacuum for 35 minutes.

Play croquet for 38 minutes.

Paper a wall for 45 minutes.

Do the twist a la Chubby Checker for 13 minutes. (Try it, this one really gets the cardio jazzed!)

Bowl for 23 minutes. (as long as there aren’t too many of you - too much in between resting then.)

Play Frisbee for 22 minutes.

Walk briskly for 30 minutes.

Golf without a cart for 26 minutes.

Skip rope for 18 minutes,

Bicycle fast for 15 minutes.

Climb stairs for 15 minutes.

Play badminton for 22 minutes.

Do a country line dance for 30 minutes.

Inline skate for 26 minutes.

Mow the lawn with a power push mower for 30 minutes.

The main thing, the (excuse the phrase) “bottom line” is GET ACTIVE. When you catch yourself sitting still for too long at a time, get up and shake it, jiggle it, groove it, walk it, strut it….just MOVE IT!
