Yeah, yeah, I know – if you’re going to scrimp, don’t do it with food as important as cheese.
If you’re pinching your pennies in the cheese department, take it from a former pincher, you don’t know what you’re missing. Buying real blocks of cheese and shredding or slicing them, yourself, gives your meals and snacks SO MUCH MORE FLAVOR.
What’s more, I’m not convinced the price is all that much higher, either.
Buying real cheese… the legit stuff… is just another “little” but “vital” cooking tip I would give everyone – new and veteran cooks, alike. Setting out blocks of different cheeses to accompany soup, spaghetti, sandwiches, or even just a great big beautiful salad makes a meal even more special and delicious.
I also love to break out a few blocks of cheese in the evening while my husband and I are watching television. Cheese goes beautifully with baseball, basketball, football, and the History Channel!
The adorable Porcelain Markers Set, pictured above, is available online from Lillian Vernon. The porcelain set of dishwasher safe markers would be ideal for identifying cheeses, meats, appetizers, and desserts.
They’d also come in handy for anyone who needs to distinguish between gluten (or other allergens) free foods and non-gluten free foods. Or vegan, vegetarian, etc.
Simply write food names with quick-dry gold pen. Ink removes easily with soap and water.
