Review: This Table Subscription Box

October 6, 2016 By Joi Sigers

I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. This costs you absolutely no extra money (of course), it simply allows me to maintain the lifestyle my cats are accustomed to!

As I’ve said before on the food blog, I get a really big kick out of subscription boxes. The mystery that comes with each one is almost too much excitement for this foodie. I had the good fortune, recently, of sampling one month’s box of the This Table Subscription Box (affiliate link) – in exchange for simply telling you all about it.

That’s what I’m here to do today!

This Table Food Subscription Box

About This Table’s Subscription Box

  1. You are able to choose from an ongoing, 3-month, or one-time only subscription for either yourself or to give as a gift to the cook and/or foodie in your life. Your subscription box will be delivered either on the 1st or 15th of every month, depending on your time of purchase.
  2. Carefully curated artisan products are carefully selected to go into your box. Four/Five items appear to come in each month’s box. From This Table: We only choose the most talented, ethical, and happy artisan products at This Table. An investment in our subscription boxes supports your discovery of their fantastic work when they arrive beautifully packaged on you or your loved one’s doorstep!
  3. The foodies at This Table get pretty creative when it comes to using the selected gourmet products. They create various recipes, including vegetarian and gluten-free fares, which are printed as lovely recipe cards.  They’ll help you figure out what to do with your new ingredients and inspire you to come up with your own tasty creations.

Equilibrium Victoria Blend Coffee
In addition to the subscription boxes, you can also shop in the online This Table Store. You’ll find coffee, kitchenware, tea, oils, vinegar, spices, jams, spreads, chocolate (!!!), and more. Endless gift ideas and inspirational ingredients for your own kitchen.

Every good cook knows that the secret to extra special meals is to keep things jazzy and exciting. Serving the same old meals week after week gets kind of stale. Food subscription box programs are a really fun way to try out new ingredients.

In the box I received, there was a bag of Equilibrium Coffee (excellent, by the way – I’ll be writing a review of it in a day or two), two bottles of wonderful oils: An Extra Virgin Olive Oil (I used it up right away, as I cook with olive oil several times a day, at least!), a beautiful Lemon Mint White Balsamic Vinegar that has redefined tastefulness for me, and a fun basil pesto (beautiful on zucchini “pasta”), and Vinaigrier Sumac (which I have not yet used).

I’ll also write separate reviews for the Pesto and oils. I loved each one so much.

What I Loved About the This Table Subscription Box

  • The coffee and olive oils were especially nice. Each brand was new to me and I plan on using them in the future regularly.  I can’t say enough good things about the oils or the coffee.
  • I  was blown away by  the Jules and Kent Basil Pesto. I fell in love with the jar and secretly hoped it was as delicious as it was adorable. It was.
  • I loved the “Recipe Card” for How to Make Your Own Vietnamese Coffee (see online) as well as the “Iced Coffee” card. Right in my wheelhouse!
  • I really, really love that the recipes and products are a beautiful representation of various cultures around the world. That may actually be my favorite thing – even above the coffee. Well, okay, they tie.  Experiencing the different tastes around the world is the most delicious way to cook and dine. Mark it down – diversity is delicious.
  • The recipe cards are beautiful and the recipes, themselves, are excellent. There were even some recipe cards that called for ingredients that weren’t even in my box. They intrigued me so much I plan on checking out the foods they did call for.

Jules and Kent Pesto
The only thing that was less than perfect with this box was very minor. The carriers who handled this box beat the heck out of it. When the box arrived, it looked like it had been in a wreck. Thankfully, the people at This Table had wrapped everything especially well, so it really was no big deal. However, if I had ordered this box for someone and they’d received it like I received it… well, it wouldn’t have made a very good impression. When it comes to something like a subscription box, the experience is at least half fun. The first impression, upon opening the box sets the stage and, unfortunately, careless handlers messed that up.

I told the people at This Table about the beaten box, so they could perhaps use someone different or switch to sturdier boxes and they were very gracious for the heads up. I wasn’t even going to mention it but then it occurred to me, I always want to know EVERYTHING a reviewer can tell me.

As I said before, however, the wrappers went to great pains to wrap each item beautifully, so no harm was done.  As you can see from the pictures, even the bag of coffee looked like it was taken right off of a shelf. That’s a real testament to the people in charge of filling the boxes. Good on them!

Read more about the This Table Subscription Box (affiliate link) on This Table’s beautiful website. You’ll find a lot of excellent recipes – trust me, they’re extra special.
