The BEST Gluten Free Sandwich Bread I’ve Found…..

August 23, 2016 By Joi Sigers

Kroger Brand Gluten Free White Sandwich Bread
It’s been a few years since I had to give up gluten and wheat and, while there are a million and one wonderful “alternatives” and gluten free foods on the market, the gluten free sandwich bread that’s available has always come “just short” of rocking my world. There have been brands I’ve liked and even a few that I thought were probably as good as it was going to get…

… that is, until I tried a new brand a few months ago.  I haven’t picked up another brand of gluten free since.

What is the magic brand that finally got it all right? KROGER! That’s right… Kroger Brand Gluten Free White Bread is the best gluten free sandwich bread I’ve ever eaten. Sandwiches are soft and fresh-tasting again.  Those of us who eat gluten free have a solid understanding with gluten free bread – you have to toast it for anything remotely delicious.

Until now.

Kroger’s gluten free bread is soft enough to make a great, “normal” sandwich and you can leave the toaster on the shelf.

It’s soft, delicious, and even “folds.”

Kroger Gluten Free Bread and Egg Salad

If you aren’t familiar with gluten-free bread, just trust me on this one… if you find one that actually folds, never let him go!

Kroger Brand Gluten Free Bread - FOLDY!
Look at the picture above. What do you see? That’s right…. it folds! Uh huh uh huh uh huh, life is good again.

Problem is, most gluten free bread does NOT fold. In fact, if you even dare to try and fold it, it’ll fall apart right in the fold. I once told my cat that I think it’d be easier to fold a graham cracker than a piece of gluten free bread.

After I found Kroger’s Gluten Free White Sandwich Bread, I stopped buying any other brand. Kroger’s tastes better, looks better… it folds… it’s even cheaper than the rest.

One day I wheeled right up to the spot and the white bread was sold out. They had a few loaves of Kroger Gluten Free 7 Grain Bread, so I bought a loaf.

It’s as good as the white sandwich bread – seriously, it’s out of this world good. Actually, I think I like it even better.

And it folds, too!  The 7 Grain Sandwich Bread is sheer perfection with peanut butter, chicken salad, and tuna fish.

I 110% recommend both of these gluten free sandwich breads – they’ll blow you away.

BFree Gluten Free Sandwich Bread Review

March 21, 2016 By Joi Sigers

Tuna Fish Sandwich on BFree Gluten Free Bread

Tuna Fish Sandwich on BFree Gluten Free Bread

The gluten crowd takes bread for granted – they really do. White bread, whole wheat bread, sourdough bread, biscuits, rolls, croissants, bagels, English Muffins… they have so many delicious options everywhere they turn.  I was in Wal-Mart a few days ago and the entire front of the store looked like a huge, glorious bakery. I’d recently been accidentally glutened (back to back, within 10 days of one another – MISERY), so I hot-footed it through the section, not wanting to take any chances of a random crumb dive-bombing me.

This end of the crumb spectrum is an entirely different ballgame. The gluten free crowd has a pretty ugly history when it comes to gluten free bread. … and I mean ugly in every sense of the word. Flavorless, stiff, dubious white slabs of something or another have long tried to pass themselves off as bread.  A lot of us simply added great bread to the list of “we’ll never haves” – right next to great store-bought doughnuts.

I’d love to see a company pull that one off!

However, times… they are a’changing. More and more great gluten free bread is hitting the market and we have something we’d all but given up on… BREAD CHOICES!

I was recently sent some beautifully-packaged gluten free and wheat free bread loaves from BFree and they honestly made me realized how much I’d missed bread.

BFree Gluten Free Sandwich Bread

BFree Soft White Gluten Free Sandwich Bread

BFree doesn’t just have one great gluten free sandwich bread, they have two:

Brown Seeded Gluten Free Sandwich Loaf – Delicious bread made with a special blend of flours, starches, proteins and fibers with sunflower seeds and golden linseeds that give it a wonderful  texture I quickly became obsessed with.

The BFree Brown Seeded Gluten Free Bread is unlike anything I’ve had in a very long time. It’s exceptionally flavorful and the texture is a beautiful, beautiful thing.

White Gluten Free Sandwich Loaf – The soft and perfect white sandwich bread is also made from a unique blend of flours, starches, proteins and fibers and has a “real bread” texture that’s very exciting to find.  This bread is free from egg and dairy as well as gluten and wheat.

Both loaves are sliced lengthways to give a bigger and better sandwich slice – producing what I think of as “fancy-looking” sandwiches.

I can be quite the food snob sometimes.

These larger slices also make the most perfect French Toast, Garlic Toast, and Grilled Cheese sandwiches you ever had, too.

Neither of these breads taste like, “Gluten Free Bread,” they taste like, “Bread,” period. And isn’t that the point?  They weren’t filled with holes, like they were going as Swiss Cheese to a Halloween party and they didn’t look like a pasty white tile my husband was fixing to use on the bathroom floor.

Look like bread. Taste like bread. EVEN smell like bread!  If I sound excited, it’s because I am. The gluten free crowd takes nothing for granted – we’ve learned that lesson the hard way. If we tend to get worked up or uncommonly excited about certain food, it’s because finding something we can both eat and enjoy is cause for celebration.

BFree is obviously named for the fact that the consumer can “be free of” wheat and gluten. However, as far as I’m concerned, it carries a “double meaning” because it also allows the consumer to “be free from” restrictions we’ve had for so long. We can “be free” from settling for bread that tastes like anything BUT bread. We can be free from “wishing” for breakfast sandwiches on bagels or rolls with supper.

We can be free to eat a tuna fish sandwich (like the one my daughter, Emily, made in the picture at the top!).

BFree Gluten Free Sandwich Bread
While I loved using both varieties of the gluten free sandwich bread for traditional sandwiches, I used the white bread more for garlic toast, French Toast, and grilled sandwiches. With these big, beautiful slices, my favorite way to serve them was to “pan toast” the slices. I smear one side with butter and add garlic salt or garlic powder, then toast it in the pan until it’s nice and browned. I flip it over so the other side doesn’t feel left out. I usually finish it off by grating a little fresh Parmesan Cheese on top. Ideal for spaghetti, soup, lasagna, or even salad.

BFree Gluten Free Sandwich Bread Toasted
Delicious!

The BFree Gluten Free Brown Seeded Sandwich Bread is absolute Heaven on a plate when used for chicken salad sandwiches. My mouth is watering right now just remembering what a delicious pair they made. I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating – the flavor and texture of BFree gluten and wheat free breads are remarkable.

BFree Gluten Free Sandwich Bread Toasted
As I said in my other BFree Reviews, the packaging on each of their products is gorgeous. I’m not sure why packaging matters so much to me, but it always has. Maybe it’s the girly girl in me, or maybe I just appreciate it when people have enough pride in what they’re doing to do ALL parts of the process as well as they can be done.

Maybe I just love pretties. Whatever the case, everything BFree does is exquisite.

BFree Gluten Free Rolls Review: Soft and Delicious!

March 15, 2016 By Joi Sigers

BFree Wheat and Gluten Free White Rolls

BFree Wheat and Gluten Free White Rolls

As I said in my BFree Gluten Free Bagels Review, BFree has an entire line of phenomenal gluten free and wheat free breads. The ones I want to focus on today are their delicious Soft White Rolls and Brown Seeded Rolls.

If you eat gluten free, you know how hard (let’s go ahead and make that HARD) it is to find good dinner rolls to accompany your meal. In fact, hard is the key word, isn’t it? Most gluten free dinner rolls are about as hard as the table your plate’s sitting on. Somehow BFree has managed to enter the gluten free dinner roll game and soundly beat the rest.  The white rolls and the brown seeded rolls are both fantastic – delicious and… wait for it… soft!

They’re even soft enough to make little ham sandwiches (or whatever you choose to put on them).

It just felt cool to actually be able to put butter and honey on rolls and serve them at supper. I really got a huge kick out of it and they were amazingly good.

I honestly couldn’t say which one is my favorite, which surprised me because I thought the white rolls would be my hands down favorite. I’ve just never been that into other breads.  Much to my surprise, though, the brown seeded rolls were crazy good.

In fact, down tell the wonderful white rolls this, but if I HAD, HAD, HAD to pick a favorite, the brown seeded one would win by a seed.  They’re just that fantastic.

BFree Gluten Free Bagels (Raving Review!)

BFree Gluten Free Bread, Rolls, and Bagels

BFree Foods:  Delicious Gluten Free Bread, Bagels, Rolls, and Wraps

There is “thrilled to death” and then there’s the emotion I have right now, sitting here telling you all about a brand new gluten-free bread company in the U.S. called BFree Foods.

Thrilled – to death or otherwise – doesn’t seem to cut it. After all, in the gluten free community, any time a new gluten free food company comes onto our radar, it’s cause for celebration.

If you are celiac, gluten intolerant, vegan or are allergic to wheat and/or gluten, this is your cue to do your celebratory dance. BFree offers a DELICIOUS line of wraps, rolls, bagels and bread loaves that are wheat-free, gluten-free, low-fat and high-fiber.

Not only do the BFree bread products taste fantastic, they don’t fall apart like many other gluten-free alternatives. They’re also calorie-responsible; the Multigrain Wraps, for example, are only 100 calories per wrap.

I was sent a beautiful assortment of BFree Bread, Wraps, Rolls, and Bagels to review – for which I am over the moon thankful for. I want to do right by these reviews because, not only am I grateful, they are EXTRA special and I want to attempt to do them justice.

BFree Gluten Free Bagels

BFree Gluten Free Plain Bagels

Many companies seemingly think they can pass just about anything off to us as “gluten free bread” and that we’ll fall for it. I’ve tasted some gluten free bread and thought, “My shoe would’ve tasted better…. and looked better.”

What? Do they think we don’t know what bread’s supposed to look OR taste like?

BFree respects the gluten free community and has gone above and beyond to give us truly exceptional bread, bagels, rolls, and wraps. Each product is a perfect 10 out of 10 – not only in taste, but appearance, as well. The bread doesn’t look like it just spent time in a shooting gallery (seriously, why are so many gluten free breads FILLED with holes?!?), and the rolls, bagels, and wraps, are downright beautiful.

{Review Continued Below the beautiful Gluten Free Multiseed Bagels…}

BFree Gluten Free Multiseed Bagels

BFree Gluten Free Multiseed Bagels

Each product is even packaged beautifully! BFree does absolutely everything right – they’re as BRight as they are BFree.   As I said above, I’ll be reviewing each (the bread, wraps, bagels, and rolls) separately – shining the spotlight squarely on each.  I figured I’d start with the first BFree product I tried – the wonderful Bagels.

BFree Gluten Free Bagels:

  • BFree Multiseed Bagels
  • BFree Plain Bagels

I could never say which is my favorite between these two gluten free bagels – which, actually, kind of surprised me. I assumed I’d prefer the plain bagels, but one bite into the multiseed bagels told me it wasn’t going to be that easy. Each variety is out of this world good and looks AND tastes like a traditional bagel.

Remember, when it comes to doing gluten free food reviews, I might be in an especially good position. After all, my body didn’t decide that gluten was poison until just a few years ago – so I remember all too well what “normal” food tastes like.  These bagels are right on the money.

BFree products do not contain wheat, dairy, eggs, nuts or soy, making the entire BFree product line free from all major allergens—and completely vegan.

I normally toast these bagels and top them with cream cheese (mmmmm, such an addiction) and maybe a little jam.  However, sometimes I’ll butter the plain bagels, toast them in my skillet, and top with cheese, a fried egg, and bacon or ham.

Here’s something that’s extra decadent: Toast your bagels in butter (even brushing the top with melted butter). Then add – fried egg, bacon, and sauteed onions. For whatever reasons, this is one of my favorite things in the world. The sauteed onion and taste of the bagel is absolute heaven on a plate.

From BFree’s Beautiful Website:

BFree was developed to bring tasty, good for you breads to the market.
Often, people avoid bread or feel poorly after having a sandwich and this may be due to sensitivities to wheat or gluten. But when gluten and wheat are removed from bread products, it is as if the ‘scaffolding’ that holds the structure together is pulled apart.

But at BFree it wasn’t enough to just create products that were simply free from gluten and wheat, instead, we set out to develop a range of products that are free from all major allergens, that taste just as good as good as the normal conventional bread products AND have exceptional nutrition. Not to mention, products that don’t crack and crumble mid meal.

Since using real, whole ingredients is the best way to bake, our products have an impressive list of high-quality, non-GMO ingredients. Whether it’s deriving protein and fiber from whole peas, apples and potatoes or using a unique blend of buckwheat and corn flours to provide gluten-like pliability, you’ll be impressed by our list of ingredients. BFree products are not only high fiber and low fat, they’re also calorie-responsible; our BFree Multigrain Wraps, for example, are only 100 calories per wrap, the lowest calorie count in the category.  Continue Reading

Where can you find BFree Bread, Rolls, Wraps, and Bagels? Apparently Meijer stores and Ralphs are your best bet, though other stores are also on the list. Use the Store Locator on BFree’s website for more information.  I’m feeling all kinds of lucky because a Meijer’s is opening in my town in a matter of weeks.

I will NEVER run out of BFree! {*Insert maniacal, Walt Disney villain worthy, laughter*}

I hope you’ll click through and learn more about BFree Gluten Free Breads. I’ll have another review up in a day or two – next up will be the AMAZING gluten free rolls.

I know this is a lot of gushing to take in all at once, but BFree has opened up a whole delicious world for me that I thought was gone for good. That’s the sort of thing that’ll leave you gushing! Try them right away… I know you’ll feel the same way.
